International Guild of Knot Tyers

Macramé, the Craft of Creative Knotting for Your Home by Fanny Zedenius,   Hardie Grant Publishing, 2017.

Have you ever wondered through your book shelves looking for an inspiration for your next knotting project? Well, this book caught my imagination and has not disappointed.

The author walks through the various knots available after explaining what materials are needed and where they can be found. Then begins a pictorial feast for the eyes and several (20+) tantalizing project ideas. I was hooked and couldn’t wait to get to the store to pick up a few meters of cordage and get started.

Fanny does an excellent job of showing how to tie the knots and gives step by step instruction on where to start and how to arrange things. However, her instructions left out some important hints that would make the project easier to finish without requiring so much untying and restarting. For example, when she talks about tying a diagonal row of knots that should meet at a certain point, be sure to use a meter or yard stick to keep everything straight and headed toward the correct destination. Otherwise, her annotated pictures and instructions make following one of her projects a real pleasure. If you like Macramé as much as I do, check this book out for some intriguing ideas.
