International Guild of Knot Tyers

Sam Jacobs

I create three dimensional sculptures using string and rope that appropriate traditional craft and knotting techniques. My work is driven by a passion for safeguarding these ancient techniques for future generations. My hope is that my work not only preserves these traditions but also raises the profile of minority women artists in this field. I enjoy crafting encounters that invite people to touch and engage with my works, offering tactile experiences that resonate on a personal level.
My work has been exhibited in Manhatten New York, Venice Bienalle, Art Basel, Switzerland, Cambridge and a duo show at Londons OXO Tower Wharf UK.
Accolades: Finalist in Sculpture '23 Visual Arts Open (VAO) Top 5 (from 5000 entries), Finalist Boomer Art Prize Third Edition '24 Top 50 (archived at Oxford University), Finalist Emerging Woman Artist Award '24 Top 50
Through my ongoing exploration of knots and their functions, I continue to be amazed by their versatility and beauty.
