I came upon span loop ABoK #1049.
I tried tying it in the bite, and ended up with a knot which I can not find anywhere, but looks something like the double dragon loop, or a really reduced monkey's fist when tied. It has two turns going in each direction.
I've attached an image (I hope).
Does anyone know what this is called?
Steps to tie in the bight are outlined below.
Notes:
1. the Knot seems to be a very good loop for using in a truckers hitch:
a. it ties in the bight,
b. it resist deformation very well
c. it is easy to untie even after being under heavy load. (just pull the front two loops apart).
2. The knot cannot be tied under load.
3. I tested this with a heavy load using the nylon cord pictured (3/16 inch).
4. It does have to be tightened well before it resists deformation.
Thanks
Daniel
PS: If this is a new form of the Span Loop I suggest calling it the Truckers Span Loop, since it's quite useful in the truckers hitch.
