Material recommendation for a doormat please?
« on: January 21, 2019, 05:42:53 AM »
I am about to start a couple doormats for our home and would like to use a rope that will live well in the weather. Resistant to sun, not affected by rain and all that. Also, I am looking for something that works well cleaning the tread of muddy shoes. It needs to be functional for more than a season.

I was looking at manila "hemp" at first but read that it tended to shrink when wet. I considered jute but have had bad experiences with jute cordage degrading in the weather prematurely. Though that may have been poor quality material.

So now I am now looking at hemp or sisal. Do you have a recommendation regarding this or other material?

Thanks for your time.
Sean

Hello SeanH and welcome.

I would recommend a synthetic rope such as Hempex. But, there are others.

Thank you.

You are welcome Sean.

They are good merchants and knowledgeable folk.

Glad that helped you.
