(New) Rope Data curiosities
« on: August 03, 2018, 12:12:47 AM »
Occasionally I browse rope catalogs and strength (tensile)
data, and am puzzled ... .  E.g., when the strange testing
of Yachting Magazine came up in another thread, I went
to the Marlow Ropes site and looked over data that they
had for their "Marlow Braid" & "Double Braid".  This was
puzzling regarding strength-per-pound --to wit:

  2_850 / 7.3#   = 390   -- 8mm Marlow Braid
  3_690 / 7.47#  = 494  -- 8mm M.'s double braid

 10_200 / 23.5#  = 434 -- 18mm Marlow Braid
   7_910 / 23.2#  = 340 -- 18mm M.'s dbl.braid

Quite some changed relations of strength per weight/size!
