New guy wants to lash a railing
« on: July 15, 2018, 11:44:24 AM »
Howdy!
I have been asked to build a railing for some outside stairs out of bamboo. The railing pieces will meet at butt joints in the middle of each upright post. I'd like to do an attractive, secure lashing.
Can anyone send a photo, instructions, or whatever to advise me?
Many thanks in advance.
David

I once was going to do some bamboo furniture and found this information.

Hopefully this will help with ideas.

Stair rails need safety and sturdiness. And for that matter, most likely need to meet building codes.

Hi David,

Thanks for posting an interesting challenge.

Have you thought of the Māori Hei Toki Lashing?

I tied these two bamboo spars with white cotton parcel string.  No holes, no screws, no bars, just the lashing.  I tried to pull the side spar off using a 25kg load, but it could not pull away.

Any use?

Derek
