book and magazine reviews

The September 2006 issue of Bead Style magazine http://www.beadstylemag.com/bds/default.aspx?c=ci&id=35 has 2 knot related articles: one is about making a necklace with alternating half hitches and the other is about the "snake knot" as used for a belt.

I recently purchased Don Burrhus' Turkshead Cookbook book and kit http://www.knottool.com/.  It was amusing to go from Don's very American (land of legal disclaimers) work to the Canadian written (but also published in the States) "Kids Can Do it Knotting" by Judy Ann Sadler (ISBN 978-1-553337-834-1) with nary a comment on safety while presenting a rope ladder and rope swing.

I like to pick up kids books so that I can see what projects and knots are considered easy for teaching...  The kids knot book covers a variety of whipping types, the cross knot, the monkey's fist, some netting in the context of a basketball net and netting bag, plus some hitches.

One of these days I will get around to really learning the Turkshead knot.  Don's book, the most recent Knotting Matters and Pat Ducey's email should do the trick...  8) 8)
