Please help identify this knot.
« on: December 05, 2013, 03:37:09 PM »
Hi, complete novice here. I need to identify this sort of knot as I am hoping to erect a similar punchbag set-up for my aspiring boxer son in our garage. If I know the name of it, I can find out how to do it myself. It's the knot holding the black and white punchbag on the left I am referring to. Many thanks

There are a great many knots that can serve your
purpose; I don't see anything in the exhibited case
you present that is compelling.  And what these
knots are, IMO, are slip-knots or maybe overhand
nooses
--the difference hinges on which end is loaded.
(It appears that the bag on the near right has lost
some grip on its tail, and the connecting metal
piece is drawn up against the overhand knot
and thus making it a stopper knot.)

A circular connection can be effected by tying one
tail to the other with a rolling hitch --this will enable
one to shrink or enlarge the connection, raising
or lowering (resp.) the bag (though by only half
of the material drawn or fed through the hitch).

Many thanks. As I said I'm a complete novice so I'll look up the types of knots you've mentioned which will give me a good starting point. Thanks once again

There are many options available to you. I can't make out what kind of knots are being used in the picture but something as simple as two half hitches would do the job.
