This thread reminded me of my Jr. High School days. We had several dress code rules, one of which was that the boys must wear a belt. If you didn't have a belt you were sent to the Vice Principals office. His way of dealing with young scofflaws such as myself was to give us a lenght of rope (sissal, I think) to hold up our pants. I believe they thought the embarassment was enough that we wouldn't forget again. If forgetting your belt became a habit, you got detention.
I wonder if he would have been impressed it I tied the ends in a sheet bend?
