Mixing materials?

Hello!
Recently I have been playing around with combining materials in some work. Mainly leather and hemp in covering jugs/bottles. Link to a pic of one of the first is below.

While working on it I was far from convinced, and kept asking myself "Is this going to be good? Is this really going to be good?" Anyway, I finished it, and the result was quite nice!

What do you think of it, and what are your experiences of mixing different materials in the same piece of work?

First of all, I like this bottle.
Looking through the album on Yahoo I noticed a jug I have seen before and liked then and still like, you call it Jug 1 and it is the second photo in the same album.
In this one you also used leather, to make a handle but it also shows at the side of the jug.
In the small jug, photo 7, the leather of the handle is also decorative on the body of the jug, also a good 'mix'.

I often mix several kinds of string, sometimes for colour, sometimes for structure and as long as the functionality is not in danger, I would say, mix whatever you like.

Yes, as you notice I have combined materials before, but not until recently I have mixed them in the covering itself.

I suppose it was mostly due to me not being used to it that I doubted it would be good, but every now and then I get an idea that appears very nice in theory but IRL it turns out to need some more time "on the drawing board".

Anyway, I guess you are right: As long as the functionality and what I try to achieve is not at risk, most combinations might be worth trying.
