Tying a 3/4" poly rope around a barrel

Hi there,

I'm new to the site and I am wondering if you could help me out.

I'm building a floating raft using a wood frame that has already been built and 15 gallon barrels. I decided that using polypropylene rope to attach the barrels to holes drilled in the frame is my best option. That is, if I can find a knot that can strap the barrels tight to the bottom of the frame. I thought it would be easy to use Google to find a knot but apparently I was in the dark about how many different knots exist.

There is a raft similar to what I'm building on this web site although mine uses 8, 15 gallon barrels and more cross beams. I also drilled holes through the beams instead of using eye-hooks.

The rope seems overly stout for what you're doing, but you could use a Verstackle:

If it's similar to the one in the link you provided, I would simply use three individual Trucker's Hitches at each tie in location. You said you don't have the eye hooks like the one in the photo's but that doesn't matter. Tie a bowline to each first anchor point and then finish off with a Trucker's Hitch. You would either have two or three independent Trucker's Hitches per barrel.

The rope is just extra stuff that I found lying around and from what I've found poly is the best in water especially since it won't be exposed to the sun while under the dock.

I think I like the versatackle with the butterfly loops the best as it looks fairly simple and easy to keep the tension. I'll try it out and let you know how it went.

I realized I was using 1/4" not 3/4" rope.

It ended up working perfectly tho. Thank you all
