Knotting world records?
« on: November 15, 2011, 05:38:52 AM »
I've got a question I'm hoping the forum can help answer:
apart from the speed challenge for the six basic Scout knots, and the records for 'largest rope', are there any other well established knotting world records?
My Scout District is considering having a mass knot-tying day to challenge a record eg. for most  people tying the six basic knots at once, but to start with we need to extablish what the target is that we're looking for.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter,
Good idea BUT please don't just do a tying 100 knots or the longest chain of knots etc, do something with a purpose and a tangible end result to make the project worthwhile.  Something like pyramid teaching - one scout teaches two people, those two each teach two more and so on, the names being recorded back down the chain.  Maybe you could have a Reef Knot pyramid, a Bowline pyramid and so on.  Just an idea to get the grey matter thinking.
Keep us informed
