Alpine Butterfly loop - 'follow through' version
« on: September 14, 2011, 12:44:09 PM »
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to tie a butterfly loop without creating the loop first, i.e. I want to tie it around an anchor point that is fixed on both end so that no loop can be thrown over it.
Thanks

You need access to one of the rope ends though.

Take a look at tying method four here
http://www.Layhands.com/Knots/Knots_SingleLoops.htm#AlpineButterfly

When you load both ends, the knot will capzise and you will get the familiar Alpine Butterfly knot structure.

If you just want the Alpine Butterfly as an end loop, I prefer the structure of the Alpine Butterfly Bend Loop:
