Some accidentally tie the form you show here by mistake...

Indeed, I too before learning well the Prusik mistook the knot by tying this one, because it comes more natural to wrap the loop a few times before passing the rest of the rope through it.
But not being mentioned in any of the books I have, I always thought of it as a 'wrong Prusik' rather than a variant with a name of its own, easier to tie than a Prusik and, apparently, without any particular drawback.

In my testing, the Prusik is a superior gripping hitch, where the load runs parallel to the object (pole).
