Looks like an Alpine Butterfly (almost).  I think he has one extra twist in there???

It is basically a Butterfly with a half twist extra in there.  My initial observation is that it's more difficult to tie, more difficult to dress, bulkier, and more jam-prone than a Butterfly.  Perhaps there are some redeeming qualities (?).

Thanks for that, I didn't know what the knot I had based it on was called, I know lots of knots and how to use them but the names aren't my strong point.

I put the extra twist in as I'm going to tie it in fishing mono, the extra twist adds more friction also the extra turn allows the loop to be cut open, not in half but right tight to one side of the loop leaving just a small tag.

For fishing mono, the knot makes more sense, but I'm not understanding your explanation.  What other fishing loops have you tried?

This looks like a bad knot, in that it's not well defined
(what happens on setting it can differ from one tying
to the next), and at least in one result one side doesn't
even form an overhand but a mere turn (making one
collar) and then tuck up into the eye --i.e., making
a half-hitch structure.  In contrast, the butterfly
(and many variations of this and like knots) has
component overhands in both ends/halves, interlocked.
