What are some recommended knots for tying down a Christmas tree on a car-roof?

 Roof racks don't have ends for loops. After the initial end Hitch I'd like to hitch in the bight before crossing back over the tree. But I can't find any decent in-bight hitches in my knot book.

This job seems to call for a tensioner.

However, if you do someday need to anchor to an endless rail on the bight, there are options:
Timber Hitch on the Bight
Midspan Sheet Bend (second diagram)

Hi Wakey.

What I have done is to middle my rope and tie a girth hitch on the front rail (I am assuming you have a front rail as do I). Then using the two lines crisscross over the tree and under the side rails as many times as you feel secures it or have rope for.
Cinch it all down and tie off.
As long as you have enough tree compression it will stay put.

I recommend that the trunk end face forward of course.

I don't have a front-rail or tackle for a tensioner.

You could do the same tie down using a side rail. Just start in the middle of the rail take one end towards the vehicle's front and the other towards the rear lacing it down.
I have never needed a tackle to cinch it down. You're just compressing the branches.
But, you could do a trucker's hitch on each line and gain enough mechanical advantage for this task.
