Icicle Hitch Variation
« on: March 18, 2010, 07:04:37 PM »
The photos below were sent to me by Dr Erwin Fuerst a retired surgeon from the USA. The icicle hitch described does not need access to the end of the rod etc as in the original John Smith version. It looks to me like a variation on the sailor's gripping hitch but what does anyone think?

The difference in this version of the Icicle (which we might liken to the
Sailor's Gripping Hitch) is that the part spanning from the away end of
the coil turns around the SPart 'a la Cow and not Clove hitch -- it changes
handedness.  In the original, this isn't done; rather, it is the following of
this unchanged reaching part that comes around and then makes this
direction-changing turn into the final wrap & tuck.
