A Glimpse of History
« on: February 18, 2010, 05:39:15 PM »
Here is a URLink to a Modern Mechanix (became Popular Mechanics?) article
entitled The Story of Rope , issued for July 1948.

http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2006/04/22/the-story-of-rope/?Qwd=./PopularMechanics/7-1948/rope&Qif=rope_1.jpg&Qiv=thumbs&Qis=XL#qdig

Enjoy,

;D  ::)

Oooops!  (touche') When my attention rivals my memory, I'm in trouble!
Weil, though, if you're only going to ChitChat about such things,
then they're Practically invisible.  (Actually,  I'm with you re placement,
but just saw it as lacking Fancyness and was tired and ... .)

Let me assure you that I've done due penance in searching through past
posts to ensure that these photos of oldness aren't redundant (though
I know they've been sent somewhere, sometime).  Much of old Wildwood
was Swedish (later influx of some Italians to enhance baking, cooking),
and here are some preserved pics of life as it was circa 1935.  The ice
vehicle is a charm!

And the story behind the picture might be --

You might be much bigger and hundreds of times stronger, and able to bite their puny bodies in half with one bite..

But when they get their ropes out you must run fast and don't let them put their ropes and knots on you == or you are DEAD.

Man with cord and fire will rule this world, so run and hide for he has them and knows how to use them..

but he has no soul - no compassion - he does not care for you or anything else in this world - save for himself...

Sadly --quite-- , it's more nearly:
 "Man will ruin this world;
  you can run, but you can't hide."

With sharks (and maybe this Great White, i.p.), the destruction is about 90%?
(And rumor of their viciousness greatly exceeds the evidence.)

There is still commercial-fishing activity at Otten's Harbor, though
much less, and with growing new housing going it (which destroys
the atmosphere).
