Secure Bend - new?
« on: October 26, 2009, 05:25:34 AM »
A variation of the "Simple Simon Under", but executed in both ends.

Attachment as KnotMaker file.

I don't know if a .km file is supposed to show automatically on this board, but I'm not currently seeing anything.

I do not know how the *.km files are viewed normally.
They do not launch automatically on my computer, I have to open KnotMaker.exe first and then access the file.

Anyway,  have converted it t a JPEG and attached here.

Harry Asher shows the like variation on "Simple Simon" -- apparently prior
to his distinguishing an "under" variation -- and calls it "Double (or Two Cross)
Simple Simon".

I don't know if anyone's ventured beyond this in the same way,
making "Three Cross/Triple" such ...Over/Under versions, but surely
one can project the construction method to these and on ad infinitum.
And how much *new* should they be accorded?

I too have difficulty in finding much new about it.  On top of that, the complexity of tying is a bit much.  Just as a reef knot can be capsized to show a lark's head form, you could also capsize the bend in question to reveal a sort of Bull Hitch form.  I don't know if that could be persued as a way to simplify tying or if it would present even more difficulties:

Further, this bend can jam or be rather unpleasant to untie when strained hard.  The security seems to be good, but I doubt that alone is going to warrant the bend's use in view of other deficiencies.

Very similar to the "Visa Versa", But the VV is much better IMO.
