New Bedford in October
« on: July 24, 2009, 05:29:02 PM »
(Positive replies only, please!)

Who among us intends to attend the impending IGKT-NAB "half-yearly" meeting at New Bedford, Ma on
Saturday and Sunday (Oct 10-11) at the Whaling Museum?

Arriving Friday?

Arriving earlier?

I will be in the area mid-Friday thru Monday AM.

There will be 4 of us from the Solent Branch arriving Wednesday 7th + one other.
We will be there until at least Monday morning when we are planning to head for Mystic Seaport before returning to the UK on Wednesday 14th

Made my hotel reservations a few days ago, tentatively there Wed-Sun.

I'm definitely planning to attend the New England Rope tour Thu, but not sure whether my schedule will permit me to arrive in time for the Boston/USS Constitution trip Wed.

Looking forward to meeting folks!

Does anyone have any updated info on the schedule of events for the New Bedford meeting? The IGKT-NAB site is lacking.

Thanks

For information on the October meeting (I think it is open to all IGKT and not just NAB, so perhaps the title needs some work?) please refer to the magazine, Knotting Matters.  It has all the up-to-date information to be made known at the time of going to press.

I intend to go.  I have one of my grandfather's knotboard to bring as well as a couple other pieces of his for 'show and tell.'  Given that 1 piece is about 100# and about 4' x 4', I'll need help getting it out of the van.  Also, where are the majority of us staying?  I'd like to get a room in the same area....

btw, I was on the fence, but Keith Hudson can be blamed for pushing me over the edge and getting me to go.....

I will be in the area mid-Friday thru Monday AM.

And apparently you will be in the area in September, coincident with some
commercial-fishing festival?  Any chance of making contacts w/those folks
for IGKT knotters to see how some current, real-live cordage use transpires?
-- as opposed to the museum tours showing (curators' guesses at) historical
usage.  New Beford still boasts an active, significant commercial-fishing
industry.

 ;)

I will be attending.  Arriving Friday afternoon and returning to Florida Monday morning.  Looking forward to seeing everyone.  Gordon, let us get together for a pint or the closest thing we can find.  Cheers,

I should be arriving at the hotel late Friday night and staying through Sunday evening.  I am bringing my wife.  Should I make her sit in the car, or can she sit in as long as she doesn't learn our secret handshake...  (she doesn't think she's welcome)

Not all the spouses are knot tyers, my wife is bringing a quilting project and I am sure some of the wives will be up for a shopping trip.   ;D

she's actually my right hand 'man' when it comes to knotwork.  She does macrame and is.......The Finisher :)

Another question, when can we drop off our display items (my grandfather's knot board specifically) on Saturday AM, or will there be late hours on Friday for setup?

Thanks

The main website has the latest details for the meeting in the Diary - http://www.igkt.net/pdf/NewBedfordOct2009.pdf - though I am not sure it completely answers the last question.
