Forces with pulleys: Generating 21x with a 5xRig and a 3xRig

Pulley use is practical rope use too; but also, the same forces that empower a pulley set, also work the same inside of the microcosm of a knot!  The same tensions, angles, frictions etc. are all bound by the the same Natural laws in the same materials etc.

Now, if we further want to compund things, if a person insets themselves to pull at the 2 points inside of the 3xRig, the way the 3xRig then inturn pulls on the 5xRig; (s)he can produce a potential of 21xBodyweight + 32xEffort.  So, for a 100# person, with a 50# added arm pull, that would 21x100 + 32x50=3700# of force potential.  Now, every friction, stretch, non-inline angle of pull will eat away at that 3700# potential, but it is still a lot!!

The key hear is to not only using the pulling forces of your effort and the inset 3xRig, but also the equal and opposite of their pulls too!! The Equal and Opposite Forces are promised to be present there with us, all wee have to do is tap into them!



You can open the window to full screen(with the above link), then even try right clicking inside of the Flash movie, and choosing ZOOM several times while over pulley etc.(then use mouse 'hand cursor' to drag scene and pan around) to see all the detail of the vector, rather than raster (raster/.bmp/.jpg would have detail loss, rather than gain on zooming in; and also the raster would have larger file size) graphics.

my maths isn't that good so I'll assume that you've got yours right- but what about the friction loss? anything over a 3:1 starts to generate more friction than the increased pull. Also if you can generate the loads you are giving then you are sure gonna want some HEAVY duty anchors in place! - and some heavy duty gear to attach to them. ;D

Fair point, but then that is why we look to provide more power than needed to cover such losses.  While we are compunding the potential forces, the potential friction losses are compounding too.  For, we must look at the yin -yang of both the efficiencies produced, and their inefficiencies too.  For, at each conversion point/ mechanic, everything is broken into it's efficiency (power transfer) and inefficency (power loss, friction, cost of conversion).

But, even that has a flipside, for in lifting/ compressing jig this innefficiency/ friction stands against us.  But, if controlled lowering/ extending jig; that friction now stands on our side, to allow control of larger load!

The main aim hear was to show the geometric increase in powers by a small change in way pulley systems are assembled, not to build one of these specifically.  Like, how to take jsut a 5xRig, and get 8x out of it etc.
