Faierie Knotting, Knots Lost, Found and Created in Portugal, Joaquim Almeida Escudeiro
With such an intriguing title, Faierie Knotting certainly encouraged me to investigate further. To my delight, I found it to be a book that is easy to read and is packed with photographs and diagrams that are clear and a delight to work from. The stories attached to the various knots give a very personal andinteresting touch which adds significantly to the uniqueness of this publication.
It is clear that Joaquim Almeida Escudeiro has worked hard to not only capture the imagination of his audience, but to also mindfully pass on the knowledge of knots gleaned from ancient sources. Whether dipped into or studied avidly, there is a lot to be taken from his valuable research.
Raising a “simple knot to the level of art” is always to strive for, so armed with Faierie Knotting, I am confident I can meet that challenge enjoyably. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who, like me, finds knotting and knotwork an exciting voyage of discovery.
