I have recently updated my knot recipes to cplusplus instead of C. You have to make the executables yourself. But then you can get recipes for column code knoits, rowcoded knots, standard herringbone pineapple knots or perfect pineapple knots. Everything is in my github knots repository:...

I guess you all know that bell ringers 'tie' the bell ropes up else they languish on the floor
Tie is a euphemism as it is not a knot in a ‘tied’ sense
It is as it is so that it can be easily 'untied'
I have been looking for a replacement for the knot(s) in use
Has anyone any...

I teach Marlinespike Seamanship at the Hoofer Sailing Club at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
I have been told by people I trust that for most knots there should be a tail in the working end of six times the diameter of the line. For bowlines, the tail should be twelve times the working...

JSa Pulley Block resp. JSa Tackle
A pulley block or tackle without pulley or block. 😉
Yesterday I saw a post about how someone used a Spanish Windlass with a lot of effort to pull a bush with roots out of the ground. To do this, he had to twist the ropes umpteen times with an iron rod in order...

Based on a letter from Frank Brown in KM161, I decided to posit his question regarding the catalogue and identification of knots. With apologies to Frank, I will try to summarize the main points and questions below.
Is it time to form a formal body to examine new knots?
What would be the form...

Dear IGKT brains-trust,
I'm a sailor with an appetite for knot-tying but no expertise... I'm doing some research and Mr Richard Hopkins has already generously replied to a general query of mine about a potential book of knots... I guess this might be the first of a few enquiries here...
In a...

Hey all. I've spent some time browsing the old forums and I can't quite understand the present state of things in regards to knot identification. It seems surprising to me that people still, after tying a knot, have to ask for expert opinion to try and figure out if it's a new knot or not. We all...

I am trying to find a terminal end loop knot that I have used for years in place of a bowline. However, I cannot find it in any books on knots and knot tying that I have ever seen. Is there somewhere I can go to find a very extensive collection of terminal end loop knots that includes more than...

Hello IGKT members, this is my first post in the forum. I am a Search & Rescue volunteer, so I have a keen interest in practical knotwork and hitches. I hope that this post is acceptable for this forum. I write to inform you about a relatively new hitch (it's only about 25 years old) that...

KnotMaker is a free Windows program for drawing knots. Version 2.3 is now available at https://daveroot.neocities.org/knotmaker/, which fixes a bug that caused an error message when saving a drawing. Also, the Layer Inspector (read only mode) icon is now a toggle. Why didn't I think of that...

I just wanted to post some recent knotwork around a boat wheel. It seems the old forum is still active, but I'm not sure how to engage with the community since it's not excepting new registrations. There doesn't seem much activity on the new forum either. Am I missing something? ... Anyway...

Deer Moderators,
Have I posted my first attempt at a forum article
- ("Worrisome Bend" in "Chit Chat") -
correctly or should I have tried so in the OLD forum's archive? It DID say "successfully posted", so I'm confused.
You see "Worrisome Bend" doesn't show up on my screen no matter how...

Hello everyone. I teach technical theatre at a university which includes the work of stagehands and riggers. For many years, I have taught 3 basic knots in any class I could squeeze it in to. In my professional experience, a stagehand who can tie a few knots will be the one who gets hired back.
I...

Hi
Call me "james". I'm new to the forum, still feeling very self-conscious. What with all these experts rendering verdicts on all these intricate knots...
Recently, I've "invented" a decorative new bend I derived from an extension of a popular modern bend.
I so wanted to share this with...

I tried to tie it using Ashley's cork board method. However the end result doesn't have a disc shape as in the book, instead it is just a spherical shape. Did anyone try to tie this knot and get the disc shape?
