Help indentifying a knot from an unusual story
« on: June 01, 2017, 04:14:54 PM »
Hi there

I remember reading about a knot that a climber developed whilst stranded and dangling off a tall ledge with a broken leg.  With the new knot he managed to raise himself a couple of inches at a time until he reached the top of the ledge.

However for the life of me I cannot seem to remember what the knot was called or be able to Google the original story!

If anyone can help identify the knot or the original story it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'll venture that some sort of friction hitch was used,
tied in auxiliary cord, such that the climber could stand
and raise the hitch for his harness tie-in, then sit and
raise that for what he would stand upon.

Climbers will often use a prusik, a type of friction hitch, as an ascender in a pinch.
