The subject of the simple, easy-to-tie exploding hitches is very
interesting ! ( although I believe it is not as easy as it may look...). The solutions must first be tested on a variety of rope materials and pole diameters, and - last but not least - under heavy loading. Then, and then only, we can have a verdict.
It has occurred to me that, as an exploding hitch, we can use the very nice "quick release" bowline-like adjustable loop, invented by Alan Lee, at ;http://igkt.net/sm/index.php?topic=3719.msg21611#msg21611
