Elongated Diamond knot
« on: May 20, 2012, 08:47:20 AM »
I have been making the anchor in the front of the Encyclopedia of Knots and fancy rope work. At the top below the large ring is an elongated diamond knot. Would anyone know where I can get some clear instructions for this knot as the pictures on page 321 of the book are very hard to see the under and overs of the knot.
Thanks to anyone who can help. :)

The first thing that popped to mind when you say "elongated diamond knot" http://chineseknotting.org/button/howto2/, but if you're looking for a multistrand version, this is probably not it...

Thanks for the replies, I will give these a go and see how they look. Here is a photo of the actual knot.

It looks very much like a 4 bight, 5 part turks head to me. How certain are you that it is a diamond?

Hi Wed, the book actually says to tie an elongated diamond knot. As the ends of the rope go in the bottom and then out the top as per a diamond knot, where a turks head the ends come out the middle of the knot. It does look like a turks head but I have included the instructions in the picture from the book. I just cant get the unders and overs right for it. The book is one of those reprints where they have photo copied the pictures and they are not very good quality.

Ah, that's definitely the knot I mentioned above.

Thanks very much Carol. That is the knot I am after. It can be doubled as per a normal diamond or lanyard knot.
Thanks again,
