Knot board miniatures

(1/1)

me1982:
Good day folks,
I am writing to you from Israel.
As a sailor I have a keen interest in Knots.
I also enjoy making knot boards, and am wondering when one get procure knot board miniatures such as blocks, life rings, anchors, oars and others.
A search in eBay revealed little in the form of key chains, which were not very impressive.

Thanks in advance.

Stores that sell models and dollhouse stuff might have parts that can be adapted.  I saw a barrel and a pulley at this store: http://www.oakridgehobbies.com/tamiya-mechanical-large-pulley-l-parts-set.html  The pulley is more mechanical than nautical, but if you glue some wood to it, you will have a working block that looks nautical.

Anchors and life rings might be tough to find, but if you get some balsa wood and an exacto knife, you can probably build and paint something that looks nice.  A dremel tool is also useful, and you can use an elecric drill as a lathe for small parts.

A nice finishing touch to knot boards is name plates for the knots.  There are many places where you can find custom engraving of brass or other materials.  Good  Luck!
