"Position" label confusing.
« on: September 22, 2011, 01:04:52 AM »
From what I can infer from the member list, the number of posts a member has determines what "Position" or 'ranking' they get.  I find these position titles confusing because they mix position titles from the IGKT board with 'ranking' based on the number of posts.

These "Positions" mix obvious forum functions (of some unspecified lofty powers?) with the "Guild Officials" of which there is only one (1). Is there only one of the Guild board members on the forums?
  • Global Moderator
  • Administrator
  • Guild Officials

These "Positions" obviously relate to the number of posts a member has made, but could confusingly be related to matters of their membership in IGKT.
  • Sr. Member
  • Exp. Member (confusion: could be "Expired Member[ship]"
  • Full Member (confusion: isn't everyone who pays their IGKT dues a 'full member?')
  • Jr. Member
  • Newbie
  • Trusted New Poster (no idea what this entitles the bearer to)

Perhaps I missed the 'readme' file or where all this is explained in the forum rules. If I have, please point me to it.  Thanks.

Hi Don,

I am not certain that I am qualified to answer all of your questions - some of your post may have to be responded to by the Webmistress.  Here is what I know, in response to your questions and statements:

Is there only one of the Board members on the Forum?  There is no Board, so I think you may be referring to the IGKT Council?  I am a Council member and Editor of Knotting Matters.
Isn't everyone who pays their dues a "Full Member"?  No - the members of the Forum are a separate bunch from those who have elected to be a member of the IGKT.  Some Forum members are also IGKT members but not all Forum members are IGKT members.

Although not strictly posed as a question (no query mark at end of statement) your reference to Forum member standings absolutely has to do with their number of postings made.  I am uncertain as to where it is laid out as such, but I know it to be true.  More postings equates with higher standing.  A Global Moderator is one who has earned the title, based on their demeanor and their knowledge, and has been asked to look at the boards (the posting areas) on a regular basis to ensure that people play nicely together, admonishing where necessary, guiding, cajoling and whatever else is necessary to keep a semblance of order whilst not disrupting the flow of excited speech (provided it is not derogatory, defamatory, improper or otherwise not acceptable) - in short, to moderate the Forum.

Hope this helps!

SR

Thanks for the reply, SR.  It clears up some confusion for me.  Silly me. I should have realized that the "... Member" and "Newbie" designators referred to IGKT forum members and their standing in the forums and not the IGKT Council.  Newbie mistake. Sorry.  :-[

And yes, I should have used "IGKT Council" rather than "Board members" as in "Board of Directors" which is the term used on the charity I volunteer with here in Canada. It seems I introduced some unnecessary confusion through my own background.
