Post Deletion Request/Idea
(1/1)
swanoonie:
In the interest of transparency and good faith, couldst anyone deleting posts (besides their author) notify the author of what made them unacceptable? I would find such a courtesy most helpful.
Respectfully,

WebAdmin:
Hi Swanoonie,
Generally speaking it is only the author of a post who can delete them. Although we as moderators have that power, it is very rarely that we use it at all, even during such disagreements of opinion as happened recently. We almost exclusively only remove spam or junk posts.
I understand that there are some forums which absolutely prohibit any deletion of posts, unless the webadmin/webmaster is convinced that it is in the better interest of the forum. This also means that a post which contains errors has to remain, and on a forum like ours, dealing with a subject which has a good deal of safety to consider, someone just casually browsing through may not be able to pick up a correction of an error. So the opportunity to delete a post - or at the very least modify it appropriately - is more suitable for us. Additionally, it gives the opportunity to reconsider and retract hasty words before too many people read them.
I must admit, however, that it would be very helpful to know just why some contributors have a much higher rate of deletions than others. I can only assume that they have reconsidered their words as soon as they hit the post button.
:) Glenys
