The Bloody Knuckle Knot is what happens when you fuse a row of
half hitches with the Blood Knot. The hitches make knuckles and the
Blood Knot (or Barrel Knot) pulls the tie together, resulting in an
unusual but attractive design.

1.) Make a counterclockwise loop (right rope over left).

2.) Then make a second counterclockwise loop in front of the first.

3.) Place the second loop behind the first.

4.) Repeat Steps 2 and 3...

5.) ...over and over again...

6.) ...until you have five loops lined up in front of one another.

7.) Insert the right running end through the middle of the loops.

8.) Insert the left running end through the middle of the loops.

9.) Gently pull the running ends in opposite directions, and...

10.) ...carefully adjust the knot until firm.

I really liked this video when I first saw it so I tried it a few times and found I wanted more. I wanted the spiral effect of the half hitches so I found an old tent pole to hold my hitches ...and then found out the hard way the lesson of tightening a little at a time....5 or 6 failed attempts later I have a spiral about 5 inches long...I think my next attempt (to make it a bracelet or anklet) I will try to get ahold of a junk arrow shaft as the hollow tube really aides in passing through of the lines at the end.

You know it occurs to me that if you were to go ahead and slip a key onto the rope in between each loop, you could use this as a key holder.

Bloody Knuckles is a game we used to play. You and your opponent hit each other in the fists until one gives up or the first one to bleed loses.

Another amusing game is where players take turns hitting each other's skull with a spoon.  The spoon, of course, to be held between the teeth...

JD:  Great series of photos, great video, great little knot.  Its beauty is reason enough for its existence, but can you think of any practical uses for it?

PS I'm now "off" to watch and learn from some of your other videos...

Hi SpitfireTriple,

If you watch my Slatt's Rescue Belt video you'll see I use the Bloody Knuckle Knot as a modified start to the belt (no ring required).

Others have so far used the Bloody Knuckle Knot as a staff handle wrap for a more comfortable (ergonomic) grip.

Still another is using the knot as a base (pendant) for necklaces they make. Although that particular person is calling the knot the Clam Shell Knot. I told her, if it helps you sell necklaces, feel free. (smile)

If your book will contain instructions as explicit and clear as in this post, the book will be invaluable.
